December 8, 2015, update for Excel 2016 (KB3114374)

Applies to: Excel 2016

This article describes update KB3114374 for Microsoft Excel 2016, which was released on December 8, 2015. This update has a prerequisite.

Be aware that the update in Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It doesn't apply to the Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home. (How to determine?)

Improvements and fixes

  • Renames the "Add-Ins" string as the "Add-ins" string for consistency.
  • Fixes the following issues:
    • The preview of attached Excel Workbooks can't be displayed in email messages in Outlook 2016.
    • When you copy and paste cells that have conditional formatting set in Excel 2016, the conditional formatting rules are duplicated even though the rules already exist in the cells.

Note After you apply the update, you need to follow the instructions in the "Registry information" section to fix this issue.
    • When you use a third-party application to host Excel 2016 and try to use the application to open a workbook externally in an Excel window, the window opens without a workbook.
    • When you sort a column of a pivot table that contains more than 1,020 rows in Excel 2016, the data isn't sorted.
    • After you set the Font.TintAndShade property in VBA for a workbook in Excel 2016, the text appears white and invisible.
    • Some text about document upload errors and digital signatures are unreadable on the Backstage in Office 2016 applications that use the Dark Gray theme.
    • User's selection of KPI icons is always ignored in PowerPivot in Excel 2016.
    • This update includes a set of fixes for Power Pivot and the Analysis Services Engine that is used to drive data models in Excel 2016.

Note See KB3114297 for more information.
    • Data models may be lost if there's a hidden workbook in Excel 2016.
    • When you open workbooks that contain Real Time Data (RTD) functions in Excel 2016, the ServerStart method is called two times instead of one time.
