This article describes update KB3114514 for Microsoft Office 2016, which was released on March 8, 2016. This update has a prerequisite.

Be aware that the update on the Microsoft Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It doesn't apply to the Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home. (How to determine?)

Improvements and fixes

Fixes the following issue:

When you open a document that has high-resolution pictures embedded in an Office 2016 application, it uses more memory than it is opened in an Office 2013 application, and the Office 2016 application may crash.

Note To fix this issue, please also follow the instructions in the Registry information section to change the registry.
