Symptoms

Assume that you enable FILESTREAM feature in Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and create a FILESTREAM container on a storage volume. If you bring the instance of SQL Server and the storage volume offline, the FILESTREAM driver (RsFx driver) is unexpectedly detached from the volume. You can use the fltmc instances command to check this state of the RsFx driver.

This issue may occur in the following scenario:

  • You use the third-party product VERITAS Storage Foundation to manage the storage volume of a Windows failover cluster.

  • The FILESTEAM data resides on the storage volume.

After you bring the storage volume online in this scenario, the FILESTREAM data is inaccessible. For example, you can't access the Windows share of the FILESTREAM data by using the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path in File Manager.
