November 7, 2017, update for Office 2013 (KB4011229)

Applies to: Microsoft Office 2013 Service Pack 1

This article describes update 4011229 for Microsoft Office 2013 that was released on November 7, 2017. This update also applies to Office Home and Student 2013 RT. This update has a prerequisite.

Be aware that the update in the Microsoft Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2013. It doesn't apply to the Office 2013 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home. (How to determine?)

Improvements and fixes

This update fixes the following issues:

  • Assume that you have the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Outlook 2013 and the Click-to-Run edition of Project 2016 installed. When you try to add a resource to a project and then select the Address Book menu, or you try to share a project file by using the Send as Attachment function in Project 2016, you receive the following error message:

We're sorry, but Microsoft Office has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Microsoft Office will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now?

Note If you select Repair Now, it runs a repair of Project 2016. If you select Close, Project 2016 is closed.

You expect Outlook 2013 is started to send the project file as an email attachment.

  • When you dock or undock an external monitor, Outlook 2013 flashes white.
  • When Windows Defender is enabled and registered for IOfficeAntivirus scanning, Office applications still run registry key scanning first instead of using Windows Defender for file scanning. After you install this update, Office applications will use Windows Defender to do the file scan instead. For more information, see Introduction to the Antivirus API Reference for Office.
  • Some rendering issues are mishandled, and this causes Office applications freezing.

This update also includes the following improvements:

  • Improves the translations of the Total Row for the Danish version of Word 2013 and PowerPoint 2013.
  • Makes improvements to avoid falling back to software rendering in more cases.
  • Improves software rendering issues that are related to memory consumption for the 32-bit version of Outlook 2013.
