Windows Defender Offline is a powerful offline scanning tool that runs from a trusted environment without starting your operating system. Here’s how to use Windows Defender Offline in Windows 10 Creators Update.
For info about using Windows Defender Offline for Windows 10 Anniversary Update or Windows 7, see Help protect my PC with Windows Defender Offline.
Run Windows Defender Offline if:

- You suspect there is malware that might be hiding on your device, but your security software doesn’t detect anything. In this case, you can start a Windows Defender Offline scan from Windows Defender Antivirus Settings. Select Start , and then open Windows Defender Security Center > Virus & threat protection > Scan history > Advanced Scans > Windows Defender Offline > Run Scan.
Before you use Windows Defender Offline, make sure to save any open files and close apps and programs. The Windows Defender Offline scan takes about 15 minutes to run, and then your device will restart.
To see the Windows Defender Offline scan results, select the Start button, and then open Windows Defender Security Center > Virus & threat protection > Scan history > See full history.
