Symptoms

In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment, you use Outlook Web Access (OWA) to open a hyperlink that is included in an email message. If the link goes to a network share (UNC path), the share does not open if the path contains non-ASCII characters, such as Japanese characters.

Note This issue occurs in Update Rollup 13 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3 and later versions.

Cause

This issue occurs because the UNC path is decoded incorrectly in the email message.

Resolution

To fix this issue, apply Update Rollup 17 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3.

Workaround

To work around this issue, copy the link to Windows Explorer and then open the path instead of clicking the link directly in OWA.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
