Description of the security update for Office 2016: February 12, 2019

This security update resolves a security feature bypass vulnerability that exists when Microsoft Office does not validate URLs. To learn more about this vulnerability, see Microsoft Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures CVE-2019-0540.

Note To apply this security update, you must have the release version of Office 2016 installed.

Be aware that the update in the Microsoft Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It doesn't apply to the Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home (see Determining your Office version).

Improvements and fixes

This security update contains the following improvements and fixes:
  • This update improves translations of some error messages for multiple languages of Microsoft Excel 2016.
  • When you accept multiple separate instances of a recurring meeting, and then you synchronize the Calendar folder in Outlook 2016, you notice that some instances are sometimes mistakenly removed from the calendar.
