This security update resolves a denial of service vulnerability that exists in Microsoft Word software if the software does not correctly handle objects in memory. To learn more about the vulnerability, see Microsoft Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures CVE-2019-1461.
Note To apply this security update, you must have the release version of Word 2016 installed on the computer.
Be aware that the update in the Microsoft Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It doesn't apply to the Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home (see What version of Office am I using?).
You may receive the following error message when you open a file that is protected by Information Rights Management:
This application is not trusted to consume rights managed content. The Authenticode signature for the application is not valid. Contact your administrator for further investigation.
To resolve this issue, install Office update 3178666.
Improvements and fixes
- When you try to print a document at envelope paper size and in landscape orientation, the printing is blocked, and the document is set to letter page size in the spooler file.
- When you use the ContentControl.Delete method in a Word add-in to delete a content control together with its contents at the end of a table cell, the table becomes corrupted.
