FIX: Access violation occurs when you enable TF 3924 to clean orphaned DTC transactions in SQL Server 2016

Symptoms


Assume that you use Microsoft SQL Server 2016. When the Trace Flag (TF) 3924 is enabled to clean the orphaned Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTC) transactions in sqlmin!XactMgr::CleanOrphanedXacts, then an Access violation (AV) occurs.
TF 3924 is introduced in KB 3145492 to clean up orphaned DTC transactions.
Note This problem doesn't occur in SQL Server 2017 and later versions.

Status


Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
