Symptoms

When you run DBCC CHECKTABLE command against a table that contains Clustered Columnstore Index (CCI) in SQL Server, an access violation error may occur. Additionally, SQL Server crashes frequently.

Cause

This access violation occurs when you run DBCC CHECKTABLE against corrupted Clustered Columnstore Index. To avoid this issue, you can drop and recreate the CCI.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:

Note: The fix available here is not to address the corruption, but it will avoid the AV and provide more meaningful information as output to indicate the corruption is in the index.
