You try to create a label in Microsoft Office Word 2007 in a mail merge. Alternatively, you try to add a label to a document. When you do this, the label is not created.

Additionally, you receive one of the following error messages:
The number must be between 1 and 31.

Workaround

To work around this issue, create a custom label that matches the label sheet that you have.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Word, and then open a new document.
  2. Click the Mailings tab.
  3. In the Create group, click Labels.
  4. On the Labels tab, click Options.
  5. Click the name of the vendor of your label in the Label vendors box. In the Product number box, click the product label number that most closely matches your labels, and then click New Label.
  6. Use the label preview and a ruler to measure your label sheet according to the preview, and then type the measurements in the appropriate boxes in the Label Details dialog box.

Note Make sure that you type a new name for your custom label in the Label name box.
  7. Click OK to close the Label Details dialog box.
  8. To locate your new custom label, click Other/Custom in the Label vendors box. This box is in the Label Options dialog box.
