Bug #: 50003401 (SQL Hotfix)Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release.
Symptoms
When you install Microsoft SQL Server 2008, the installation fails. In the Summary.txt file, the following error message is logged:
Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Infrastructure.InputSettingValidationExceptionAttributes do not match. Present attributes (Hidden, System, Directory, Archive), included attributes (0), excluded attributes (Archive, Compressed, Encrypted).
Note The Summary.txt file is in the following folder:
<SQLInstallFolder>\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log
Cause
This problem occurs because the SQL Server 2008 installation folder has the Archive attribute set. The Archive attribute is in the exclusion list that the SQL Server 2008 Setup program uses to validate the installation folder during the setup process.
Resolution

Workaround
To work around this problem, remove the Archive attribute from the installation folder. To do this, follow these steps:

Open the folder that contains the folder that has the Archive attribute.

Right-click the folder that you want to remove the Archive attribute from, and then click Properties.

On the General tab, click Advanced.

On the Advanced Attributes tab, click to clear the Folder is ready for archiving check box.
If the installation folder does not exist, remove the Archive attribute from the closest parent folder. For example, you install SQL Server 2008 into the following folder:
C:\FolderA\FolderB\FolderC The FolderC folder does not exist. The FolderB folder has the Archive attribute set. In this situation, you must remove the Archive attribute from the FolderB folder.
Status
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
More Information
This hotfix is integrated into the Sqlsupport.msi package of Cumulative update package 1 for SQL Server 2008. After you install the Sqlsupport.msi package of Cumulative update package 1 for SQL Server 2008, you can start the installation of the release version of SQL Server 2008 without determining whether the installation folder has the Archive attribute set. If the installation folder has the Archive attribute set, the Archive attribute will be automatically removed.
