"Internal error: An unexpected exception occurred" error when you run the ProcessUpdate command if you modify the aggregation design of a dimension in SSAS 2008 R2

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.
SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a partition that has a dimension on a computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services (SSAS 2008 R2).
  • The partition uses an aggregation design, and the partition is fully processed.
  • You change the aggregation design.
  • You run the ProcessUpdate command against the dimension.
In this scenario, you might receive the following error message:

Internal error: An unexpected exception occurred.

CAUSE
This issue occurs because partition aggregations are not synchronized with the aggregation design.
