Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 or Microsoft SQL Server 2012 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 or Microsoft SQL Server 2012 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You try to run the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services Deployment Wizard by using the SQL Server Authentication mode. The user name and password are stored in the connection string in the <Project name>.configsettings file. In this scenario, the Analysis Services Deployment Wizard does not run. Additionally, an error message that resembles the following is generated in the SQL Profiler trace log:

OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: Invalid authorization specification; 28000.

Note The Analysis Services Deployment Wizard runs successfully in a non-silent mode if you follow these steps when you run the wizard:

  1. In the Specify Configuration Properties window, click the button next to the connection string to populate the Connection Manager dialog box. Note The connection string that is displayed in the Connection Manager dialog box includes the correct user name and password.

  2. Click OK to close the Connection Manager dialog box.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Analysis Services Deployment Wizard incorrectly removes the user name and password from the connection string.
