Symptoms
After you install a custom Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP) on a computer that is running Windows XP, you cannot encrypt Office Open XML (OOXML) files or open existing encrypted OOXML files in Microsoft Office 2010.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, apply the following update:

Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common

On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.

Type Security, and then press ENTER.

Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Security -
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String value.

Type DeprecatedProviders, and then press ENTER.

In the Details pane, right-click DeprecatedProviders, and then click Modify.

In the Value data box, type The Custom CSP Name, and then click OK.

Exit Registry Editor.
