How to invite or add members to a Yammer group

INTRODUCTION
This article contains information about how to invite or add members to a Yammer group that you created or administer.
PROCEDURE
You can add members to a group in three ways.

Enter a colleague’s user name or email address

  1. In the list in the left column, click the name of the group to go to the Group homepage.
  2. At the top of the right-side column, click Add Members.
  3. Enter the user names or email addresses of the members whom you want to add to your group, and then select their names from the drop-down menu that appears.

    Note If you want to add more than one user at a time by using this method, you must press the spacebar or Tab key after you enter an email address.

Import users from an address book

  1. Click the group's name from your list in the left column to go to the Group homepage.
  2. In the upper-right section of the group's header area, click the Settings button.
  3. On the Manage page, locate the Members area, and then click the button to Import from Address Book.
  4. In the lightbox that appears, enter the credentials from the address book that you want to sync.
  5. Click the Preview button to see the list that you are importing.
  6. In the preview window, make sure that you select each user whom you want to invite, or click Select All if you want to invite all users to the group.
  7. Select the contacts that you want to invite, and then click the Send Invitations button.

    Note Only a group administrator or network administrator can access this feature. If you add contacts to your group who aren't yet users in the network, they won't be displayed in your group as active members until they accept your invitation and join Yammer.

Upload a .CSV contact file into a Yammer group

  1. Follow steps 1 through 3 from the "Import users from an address book" section.
  2. When the lightbox appears, click the From Email Application button.
  3. Click the Browse button, and upload the file from your computer or email client.
  4. Click the Preview button to see the list that you are importing.
  5. In the preview window, make sure that you select each user whom you want to invite. Or, if you want to invite all users to the group, click Select All.
  6. Select the contacts that you want to invite, and then click the Send Invitations button.

    Note Yammer only accepts a specifically formatted .CSV file. For example:
    E-Mail Addressuser1@domain.comuser2@domain.comuser3@domain.com
