Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
-
You create a prestaged installation media in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
-
You create a task sequence on a System Center Configuration Manager 2007Â SP2 site server.
-
You configure the task sequence to use the prestaged installation media to deploy an operating system to a computer.
-
You configure the task sequence to include another restart action before the operating system is applied. For example:
"SMS_TaskSequence_RebootAction" name="Restart in Windows PE" /
"SMS_TaskSequence_PartitionDiskAction" name="Partition Disk" "SMS_TaskSequence_RebootAction" "SMS_TaskSequence_ApplyOperatingSystemAction"
In this scenario, when the task sequence is run, the operating system is not installed, and the whole task sequence is unsuccessful. Additionally, the following error message is logged in the Smsts.log file:
Failed to install boot image.
Unspecified error (Error: 80004005; Source: Windows)
