Symptoms

Assume that you run the Reg.exe command prompt utility together with the FLAGS option on a computer that is running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 in order to query the state of the virtualization flags for a key. For example, you run the following command:

reg.exe FLAGS HKLM\Software QUERY In this situation, help information about how to use the Reg.exe utility is returned instead of the status of the flags.

Cause

This issue occurs only under certain memory conditions in which a variable is used by a certain function before the variable is initialized.
