You cannot send an RTF email message that contains an embedded picture to an external recipient in an Exchange Server 2010 SP3 environment
Consider the following scenario:
- You apply Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3 (SP3) on a Windows Server 2012 server.
- You create a Rich Text Format (RTF) email message and insert a picture into the message body.
- You try to send the email message to an external recipient.
Last error: A storage transient failure had occurred during content conversion.
This issue occurs because Windows Server 2012 uses a new behavior in the transport pipeline.
To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
