Latest updates for versions of Office that use Windows Installer (MSI)

This article describes update KB2956085 for Microsoft Word 2013 that was released on February 10, 2015. This update also applies to Office Home and Student 2013 RT, which contains Word 2013. This update has a prerequisite.

Please be aware that the update in Download Center applies to Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2013. It does not apply to the Office 2013 Click-to-Run editions such as Microsoft Office 365 Home. (How to determine?).

Improvements and Fixes

  • Improves localization to make sure that the meanings are accurate in the following languages versions:

    • Swedish

    • Kyrgyz

    • Brazilian

    • Indonesian

  • Fixes the following issues:

    • Assume that you installed October hotfix KB2889954 for Word 2013. When you print or print preview a document in Word 2013 that has the "Print Markup" option enabled, the page numbers of the document may be displayed incorrectly.

    • The Suppress extra line spacing at top of page and the Suppress extra line spacing at bottom of page options are unavailable in the Advanced panel of Word Options in a Word 2013 document. After you apply this update, those options are available in the Layout Options for section.

    • You cannot type Chinese characters in the Subject, TO, or CC field in Microsoft Outlook 2013 after you resize a table in the email body many times.

    • Footnote reference numbers in vertical text are incorrectly rotated 90 degrees clockwise.

    • Assume that you create a Rich Text Format (RTF) email message in Outlook 2013, and then you save it as an Outlook Form Template (OFT) file. When you open the OFT file from the file explorer, the file is opened as an HTML file that has incorrect fonts and formatting. This issue only occurs when Outlook uses an online mode profile.

    • When you insert a photo taken on a smartphone, tablet, or digital camera into Word, Excel, or PowerPoint 2013, although the photo will appear in the correct orientation in the insert dialog on Windows 8 or 8.1, the photo may appear in the wrong orientation in the document.

Note To fix this issue, you must also have update KB2889846 for Office 2013, update KB2920753 for Excel 2013, and update KB2920732 for PowerPoint 2013 installed.

    • Assume that you create a Word 2013 document, and then you type some Hebrew text that includes numbers into the document. You save the Word document as a PDF file. You open the PDF file, copy the numbers, and then paste them to a new document. In this situation, the digits in the numbers may be reversed (for example, "321" instead of "123"), or the digits may be completely different.

    • When you print a Word 2013 document that contains a diacritic in vertical ruby, the orientation of the diacritic on the printed page differs from what is displayed on screen in Print Layout view. For example, the diacritic is rotated and displays in the wrong place.

    • Assume that you insert a DOCPROPERTY field that refers to a custom document property in a Word 2013 document. You save the document as an .odt file, and then you close it. When you reopen the file, the DOCPROPERTY field is restored as plain text.

    • When you run the Selection.Information(wdVerticalPositionRelativeToPage) method, the method may return an incorrect result.

    • When you use apps for Office, Word 2013 may stop responding if it is overloaded with too many actions from an app.

    • When you change the wrapping style of a signature object in a Word 2013 document (other than the default "In line with text" style), the Sign button is missing on the shortcut menu. Additionally, when you open a Word document that is created by using earlier versions of the Word application in Word 2013, and the document contains a signature object whose wrapping style is customized, Word 2013 cannot validate the signature.

    • When you paste content to a Word 2013 document in which the track changes function is enabled, Word may crash.

    • Consider the following scenario:

      • You open a Word document (.docx) that contains Unicode characters.

      • You enable track changes for the document.

      • You change the font of the Unicode characters (other than the Japanese font).

      • You save, and then close the document.

      • You reopen the document.

In this scenario, the Unicode characters are changed unexpectedly.
