All about the MSN Weather app



Change the temperatures from Fahrenheit to Celsius

For the Windows app:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click with your mouse.
  2. Tap or click the button marked Change to Celsius or Change to Fahrenheit.
For the Windows Phone app:
  1. Click the in the bottom right, click settings, change to Celsius or change to Fahrenheit.

Set the weather for my current location

For the Windows app:
  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click with your mouse.
  2. Tap or click the button marked Current Location.
For the Windows Phone app:
  1. Click in the bottom right, click settings, and then tap the slider for "Display current location" On or Off.


Add a favorite location

For the Windows app:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen or right-click with your mouse.
  2. Tap or click the tile at the top of the screen marked Places.
  3. Tap or click the + button.
  4. Enter the name of the location.
  5. Tap or click your chosen location in the list, or tap or click Add. Then, tap or click the location that appears in the tile on that page.
For the Windows Phone app:
  1. Tap the + at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Type the name or zip code of the new location and press enter.
  3. Tap to save.

Remove a favorite location


For the Windows app:
  1. Tap or click the Edit button. All favorite locations will then display an X button.
  2. Tap or click the X on the location that you want to remove.
  3. Tap or click the Edit button to finish.
For the Windows Phone app:
  1. Tap the edit button in the favorites section.
  2. Tap the location you want to delete.
  3. Tap the delete button.

Set a location as the default home


For the Windows app:
  1. On the location's weather page, swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click with your mouse.
  2. Tap or click the Set as Home button.
For the Windows Phone app:
  1. Tap and hold any location.
  2. You can then set home, remove, or pin to start.

Change my home location



For the Windows app:
  1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top or right-click with your mouse.
  2. In the bottom bar of the app, tap or click the Change Home option.
  3. Tap or click your desired location from the Favorites list.
For the Windows Phone app:
  1. Tap and hold any location.
  2. You can then set home, remove, or pin to start.

Add (pin) a location to the Start screen



For the Windows app:
  1. On the location's weather page, swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click with your mouse.
  2. In the bar at the bottom of the screen, tap or click the Pin to Start button.
For the Windows Phone app:
  1. Tap and hold the location you want to pin.
  2. Tap pin to start.

Refresh the weather data

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click with your mouse.
  2. Tap or click the Refresh button.

Search for weather in a specific location



For the Windows app:
  1. Tap or click the Search icon in the upper-right corner of the page
  2. Enter the location name in the search box.
  3. Tap or click the name of the location.
  4. If a drop-down list of locations isn't displayed, press Enter.
  5. Tap or click the desired location.
For the Windows Phone app:
    1. Tap the + at the bottom of the screen.
    2. Type the name or zip code of the new location and press enter.
    3. Tap  to save.

Share the weather with people I know



For the Windows app:
  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, enter Windows Key + C on the keyboard or move your mouse to the top-right corner of the screen and then move it down the edge.
  2. Tap or click Share.
  3. Select the app you'd like to use to share the weather.

Reorder my favorites



For the Windows app:
  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen or right-click with your mouse.
  2. Tap or click the Places button to see your list of favorite locations.
  3. Tap or click, then hold down, on a location.
  4. Drag and drop the location to its new position.

See worldwide weather maps


For the Windows app:
  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen or right-click with your mouse.
  2. Tap or click the down arrow next to Weather Maps to see the list of regions.
  3. Tap or click the region of your choice.
The feature might not be available in every locale.

For the Windows Phone app:

  1. Swipe to the Maps section to display maps for your current location.
  2. To see maps from another location, use to find a new location.
  3. When the new location loads, swipe to the maps section to see maps for that location.
  4. Tap any tile to view the animated map.

Switch between different types of weather maps


For the Windows app:
  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen or right-click with your mouse.
  2. Tap or click Weather Maps.
  3. Tap or click different map types for the region you're viewing.
  4. Tap on the map or move your mouse to bring up the map types menu again.

Animate (or 'loop') the weather maps


In the Windows Phone app, tap the tile for any map to see the animated map.

For the Windows app:

Tap or click the Play/Pause button to view animations.

Zoom in on a map


For the Windows app:
  1. Touch: Move your fingers apart to zoom in or pinch the screen to zoom out.
  2. Keyboard: You can zoom in or out using keyboard shortcuts.

    a.       To zoom in one level, use the keyboard {+} or {=} button.

    b.       To zoom out one level, use the keyboard {-} button.
  3. Mouse: Click the +/- symbol on the screen to zoom in and out. Or use the mouse {SCROLL + UP} to zoom in or mouse {SCROLL + DOWN} to zoom out.

    The feature might not be available in every locale.

Pan to the hourly forecast, maps, and historical weather

There are a few ways you can pan to your desired location.

For the Windows app:
  1. Touch: Swipe on the screen.
  2. Keyboard: Use the arrow keys

    a. To pan left use {left arrow}
    b. To pan right use {right arrow}
    c. To pan up use {up arrow}
    d. To pan down use {down arrow}
  3. Mouse: Left-click and drag the map

    Note: Panning is restricted to regional boundaries, but you can select a neighboring region. Check out "See weather maps worldwide" on this page.

    The feature might not be available in every locale.
For the Windows Phone app:
  1. From the home page, swipe to the right until you see the daily summary.
  2. Tap the tile for a specific date for detailed information(not numbered)
  3. To see an hourly forecast, swipe to the right twice from the home page

    Note: Panning is restricted to regional boundaries, but you can select a neighboring region. Check out "See weather maps worldwide" on this page.

Sort the list of ski resorts

There are a few ways you can sort the list of ski resorts around the world.

For the Windows app:
  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen or right-click with your mouse.
  2. Tap or click Ski Resorts.
  3. At the top of the table, tap or click one of the headings: Name, New Snow, Trails Open or Lifts Open.
  4. Click a heading to reverse the order of the list.

Your favorite ski resorts

Like any other location in the Weather app, a ski resort can be set as your home location, pinned to the Start screen, or added to or removed from your Favorites list.

Reports on ski resorts include trail maps, current conditions, reviews, and 360-degree panoramas.
