FIX: "Failed to create kernel event for collection set" error occurs when you use Data Collection in SQL Server 2012

Symptoms
Assume that you use Data Collection in Microsoft SQL Server 2012. After you install SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 Cumulative Update 4 (SP2 CU4), data collection jobs fail, and the following error message is logged in the error log:

Query statistics
Failed to create kernel event for collection set: {<ID>}. Inner Error; Cannot create a file when that file already exists.
Resolution
The issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server: Recommendation: Install the latest cumulative update for SQL Server
Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. We recommend that you download and install the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:
