Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the June 9, 2015 update (KB3054791) for Microsoft Lync 2013 (Microsoft Skype for Business).

Note

After you install this update, Microsoft Narrator will also read a user's name when the user sends you an instant message in an existing conversation.
Lync 2013 was upgraded to Skype for Business in April 2015.
