“We’re having trouble to display this page” error when you try to sign in to the Yammer app for Windows Phone

PROBLEM
Consider the following scenario:

  • You use a Yammer single sign-on (SSO) process or Office 365 to sign in to Yammer.
  • You use SSO together with Office 365.
  • You use Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) as your Identity provider (IdP).
  • You configure AD FS to use Windows Integrated Authentication for internal users.
In this scenario, when you try to sign in to the Yammer app for Windows Phone, you receive the following error message: 
We’re having trouble to display this page.
SOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use one of the following authentication methods to access the Yammer app for Windows Phone.

Forms-based authentication on AD FS

Usually, when you set up AD FS and AD FS proxy, you can use forms-based authentication for external users. Users who try to sign in from external locations (for example, from their home) aren’t on the corporate network. AD FS will try to sign the user in by using forms-based authentication.  

Users who are trying to sign in while they are connected to the corporate wireless network can use their cellular data connection or connect to a non-corporate wireless connection. By doing this, the user is identified as an external user and is redirected to the forms-based authentication to sign in. 

Temporary password

Users who are using only Windows Integrated Authentication together with their AD FS can get a temporary password in order to sign in. To get the temporary password, follow the steps in the “Solution” section of the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

This problem occurs because the Yammer app for Windows Phone doesn’t support Windows Integrated Authentication. The user who tries to sign in to the Yammer app for Windows Phone is connected to the corporate wireless network and is identified as an internal user. AD FS tries to sign in the user by using Windows Integrated Authentication. 

After users sign in to the Yammer app for Windows Phone, a token is issued for their account. The token is available when users are active in Yammer. This means that users don't have to authenticate every time that they open the Yammer app for Windows Phone.
