This article describes an update that optimizes Microsoft Azure Backup. Before you install this update, see the Prerequisites section.

About this update

This update upgrades the Microsoft Azure Recovery Services agent to version 2.0.9022.0 and provides the following improvements:

  • By using the built-in USN technology in Windows to track the changes for files between incremental backups, Azure Backup reduces backup times by as much as 50 percent.

  • The required cache space will be 5 percent instead of 15 percent for any new volumes that are protected through this agent.

  • The maximum number of backup copies that can be stored on Azure is increased from 366 to 9,999.
