To enable mail logging, follow these steps for your version of Outlook.

Microsoft Outlook 2013 and Microsoft Outlook 2010

  1. On the File tab, click Options.
  2. In the Outlook Options dialog box, click Advanced.
  3. In the Other section, select the Enable troubleshooting logging (requires restarting Outlook) check box, and then click OK.
  4. Exit and then restart Outlook.

Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 and Microsoft Office Outlook 2003

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Other tab, click Advanced Options.
  3. Select the Enable logging (troubleshooting) check box, and then click OK two times.

Enable logging through the registry

You can also enable the mail logging option by making a change in the registry. To do this, follow these steps.

  1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start search box, and then click regedit.exe in the Programs list.
  2. In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey for Outlook 2010:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\<1x.0>\Outlook\Options\Mail
    Note In this subkey, <1x.0> represents the program version number ("15.0" = Outlook 2013, "14.0" = Outlook 2010, "12.0" = Outlook 2007, "11.0" = Outlook 2003).
  3. In the right pane, right-click EnableLogging, and then click Modify.
  4. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 under Value data, and then click OK.
  5. Exit Registry Editor.

You can enable failures tracking in the Application log by making a change in the registry. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start search box, and then click regedit.exe in the Programs list.
  2. In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey for Outlook 2007:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\
    Locate and then select the following subkey for Outlook 2003:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
  4. Type CancelRPC, and then press Enter to name the key.
  5. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  6. Type EnablePerfTracking, and then press Enter to name the DWORD.
  7. In the right pane, right-click EnablePerfTracking, and then click Modify.
  8. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, click Hexadecimal, and then type 1b under Value data.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Exit Registry Editor.
