Go to Insert and in the
Symbols group, select Symbol. -
In the Font box, select (normal text).

On the Symbols tab, select a symbol such as é, ê, or ä and then select Insert.
You can also enter accented characters with alt key codes. For more info, see Insert ASCII or Unicode Latin-based symbols and characters.

Go to Insert and select
Symbol in the Symbols group. -
In Character Viewer select
Latin. on the left. If you don't see the Character Viewer dialog, select the expand symbol gallery icon in the upper right. -
Find and double-click a symbol such as é, ê, or ä, and
to exit the dialog.
Excel for the web doesn't currently support adding accented characters using symbols. However you can add most accented characters with an alt key code.

Turn on NumLk for the number pad. On a laptop, turn on NumLk and use the number pad embedded in the keyboard.

Select where you want the character, press and hold the Alt key and type the alt key code on the number pad. For example, press Alt + 136 to get ê, or Alt + 165 for ñ.
