Quickly review documents on your mobile device with Copilot in Word. Copilot can help generate summaries, suggest questions, and chat with you about the document. 

Copilot in Word for iOS on iPad​​​​​​​

Note: To use this feature, an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription and/or Microsoft 365 Copilot license is required. See Where can I get Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Draft with Copilot

  1. ​​​Open a new or existing Word document.

  2. Select the Draft with Copilot icon on the canvas.

  3. Choose from one of the provided prompts or, in the compose box, enter a detailed description of the content you would like Copilot to generate for your document.

  4. Select the Generate arrow. Copilot will then produce your requested content.

Rewrite with Copilot

  1. Open a Word document.

  2. Select the text you want rewritten, then chose from one of the generated prompt suggestions (Auto rewrite or Visualize as a table) or use the prompt box to specify how Copilot should rewrite your text.

  3. Select <or> to navigate between rewritten versions.

Use multiple files for broader insights

For tasks that benefit from a wider scope, such as summarizing content or asking questions about a document, you can start by referencing up to three files.

Add Files: In the Draft with Copilot dialog, select Reference a file to choose up to three files for Copilot to consider when creating your new document.

Direct Access: Enter "/" followed by the file name in the Compose box to prompt Copilot to reference content from your SharePoint or OneDrive. Be sure you have the necessary permissions for the Word or PowerPoint files you want to use.

Chat with Copilot

  1. Open a Word document that already has at least 200 words in it.

  2. Tap the Copilot icon to open the Copilot pane.

  3. Use the Copilot prompt box to type your prompt or ask a question.

  4. Select the Generate arrow. Copilot will then produce your requested content.

Summarize a document

  1. Open a Word document that already has at least 200 words in it.

  2. Tap the Copilot button to open the Copilot pane.

  3. Select Summarize from the suggested prompts. Copilot will then produce your requested content.​​​​​​​
