A classifier is a type of model that you can use to automate identification and classification of a document type. Creating a classifier enables you to create a new SharePoint content type that will be associated to the model.

Create your own classifiers or use examples of the document type ("example files") to train your model.

To create a classifier to identify files that have the same content type:

  1. On the Model home page, select Train classifier.

This displays the label page of the classifier, and the first file of the training set is shown in the viewer.

  2. Mark the files as positive or negative examples of your document type by selecting Yes or No for each sample file.

  3. For each file in the sample set, select at least 5 positive examples and 1 negative example.

    • Positive example: Documents that represent the document type. These contain strings and information that would always be in this type of document.

    • Negative example: Any other document that does not represent the document you want to classify.

Next, you’re ready to train your model.
