Select the File tab and select Info.

Select
Protect Document and clear Always Open Read Only.

If you still can't edit, in the upper-right corner, select
Viewing or Reviewing and switch to Editing. -
If you see a yellow Read-Only message bar, select Edit Anyway.
Tip:Â If you can't exit Protected View, it's possible that the document author or your system administrator has rules established that prevent editing. Contact one of them to get editing permissions or save the document with another name and edit the new document.
If you're prompted to open a document as read-only select No to open for editing.
If you're in the document and can't edit it, follow these steps:

On the Review tab, select
Protect Document. -
Under Protection, clear the Protect document for check box. If prompted, enter the password and select OK.
