ISSUE

When you attempt to expand a Contact Group in Outlook Desktop you may see the error:

“Cannot perform the requested operation. The command selected is not valid for this recipient. The attempted operation failed. An object could not be found.”

When you open the Contact Card for the Contact Group it shows there are no members in the Contact Group, stating “No members have been added”.

STATUS: WORKAROUND

This issue is first fixed in Beta build 15303.10000.  See the Update History for Beta Channel to see when this build is available, Update History for Office Beta Channel.  The fix is expected for Current Channel in late May.

To work around the issue, do the following:

  1. Select New Email.

  2. Choose the To button to add recipients from the Address Book control.

  3. Locate the Contact Group and double-click it to add it to the email.

After you add the Contact Group to the email with these steps you can expand it with no error.

Note: This issue occurs after updating to Version 2203 (Build 15028.20160). If the issue is too problematic you can revert Office to Version 2202 builds noted here, Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date) - Office release notes

  1. Open a Command Prompt in Administrator context

  2. Type or paste the two commands into the Command Prompt window and press Enter after each

  • cd %programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun

  • officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.14931.20132
