ISSUE

If a user receives an email in new Outlook with a Word document attached, selects to preview it in a side-by-side window, then selects the Print button, a Microsoft Word dialog box appears with an Open PDF button. When the user selects the Open PDF button, they might experience the following:

  • Nothing happens

  • A new window opens in the default browser titled Server Error and an error saying:404 - File or directory not found.  The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

This issue does not happen with Excel or PowerPoint files. This issue also does not happen in Outlook on the web.

STATUS: INVESTIGATING

The Outlook Team is investigating this issue for a fix. We will update this article when we have more information.

WORKAROUND

You can use either Word on the web or Word desktop app to print the document.

After you open the Word document in the side-by-side preview window, select the Open in Word button on top and choose either Open in Word on the web or Open in Word desktop app, and then print the document.
