Feature a conversation in Viva Engage

You might want to amplify posts to reinforce culture, shine the spotlight on leaders, keep employees in the know, or create more visibility on important issues within your organization.

Admins can increase the visibility of important conversations by designating them as featured, which gives them priority treatment in feeds, and promotes more discovery of the content. Viva Engage admins, verified admins, and global admins can manage featured conversations to help curate the feed.

What does featuring a conversation do?

When a conversation is featured:

  • It gets a special visual treatment to call attention to the conversation.

  • It shows at the top of Home feeds for all users until they view it.

  • For users who may come to Viva Engage less frequently, it's also included in the weekly digest email if a user hasn’t already seen it.

To feature a conversation

  1. Click the More Options icon More community options button to the right of the conversation, and then select Feature Conversation.

  2. Select the end day and time (your local time) for the featured conversation.

  3. Click Continue.

    You should see that the conversation is featured as well as a tooltip that only admins can see. Hover over this tooltip to find out when the feature will end.


Q: What happens if I feature multiple conversations?

A: We will only show one conversation at the top of the Home feed or weekly discovery email. In the feed and email, we will show the featured conversation that is expiring first that the user hasn’t yet seen. Featured conversations can still show up organically in the Home feed and discovery email.

Q: What’s the difference between a featured conversation and a pinned post?

A: A pinned post is at the community level and can be controlled by community admins. A featured conversation is for globally relevant content that the organization wants to increase the visibility of.

Q: Is there a limit on how many featured conversations you can have across the organization’s tenant?

A: No.

Q: What time zone is used for scheduling featured conversations?

A: The admin’s local time.

Q: Can I feature a conversation from a private community?

A: Yes, but it will only show to those in that community.

Q: Who can activate this feature?

A: Viva Engage admins, verified admins, and global admins.

Q: Do featured conversations generate a notification or go into the Viva Engage inbox?

A: No. This feature can be combined with announcements, though, to have the conversation appear in the user’s Inbox.

Q: Does it matter if a user is a member of the community?

A: No, this is promoted globally.
