1. In the tree view, double-click the static structure diagram icon that represents the contents of the package you want to add a subsystem to.

    A blank page appears, and the UML Static Structure stencil becomes the top-most stencil. The workspace displays 'Static Structure' as a watermark. An icon representing the diagram is added to the tree view.

    Note: If the tree view is not visible, click UML, point to View, and then click Model Explorer.

  2. Drag a Subsystem shape onto the drawing page.

    A subsystem icon is added to the tree view, along with a static structure diagram icon that represents the subsystem's contents.

  3. Double-click the Subsystem shape to open the UML Subsystem Properties dialog box. Type or choose the property values you want, and then click OK.

  4. In the tree view, double-click the static structure diagram icon that represents the subsystem's contents.

  5. Drag shapes or icons that represent the elements the subsystem contains onto the drawing page.
