How to create a meeting in Teams for your personal life

In Teams for your personal life, you can easily create meetings with your contacts. You can create instant meetings when you want to start the meeting now, or you can create scheduled meetings to share with your contacts.

You don't need an account to simply join a meeting, but creating an account lets you access the meeting's chat history, create your own meetings, and more. Learn how to sign up

Create an instant meeting:

  1. There are multiple ways to create an instant meeting:

    • From your Chat tab, tap the Start an instant meeting Meet now button  icon at the top of the list.

    • Tap the Calendar tab, then tap the Start an instant meeting Meet now button  icon at the top of the screen.

  2. You can tap the Edit Edit button  icon to change the name of the meeting.

  3. Tap Share meeting invite Teams Android share icon   to share your meeting link via SMS and more.

  4. Tap Copy meeting link Teams copy meeting link icon  to copy the meeting invite link to your clipboard.

  5. Tap Start meeting to begin.

    • Your meeting is created, and your meeting link is displayed in the meeting chat. You can copy and share this link at any time.

  6. Set your audio and video options and tap Join now. You can Add participants or Share the meeting invite for people to join.
     

    Note: If you don't want to have users enter the meeting's lobby before they're able to join, disable it by tapping  Show participants icon  Meeting participantsThe Meeting options icon in the Call options dialog in Teams for desktop  Meeting options, and select Everyone for Who can bypass the lobby in the dropdown.

To create a scheduled meeting:

  1. From the Calendar tab, tap the Add event  Add button  button at the bottom right of the screen.

  2. Give your meeting a name in the Title field.

  3. Tap the Online meeting toggle to On to generate your online meeting link.

  4. You can set the meeting for All day, or you can fill out the start and end fields to schedule your meeting. You can also set the meeting to repeat or add details.

  5. Tap Submit  Teams OK icon to schedule your meeting.

  6. Your meeting appears on your Calendar; tap the meeting, then tap Share meeting invite Teams iOS share icon  to share your meeting link via SMS, Skype, and more.

  7. Tap Join to start the meeting, set your audio and video options, and select Join now to enter the meeting as host.

    Note: If you don't want to have users enter the meeting's lobby before they're able to join, disable it by tapping  Show participants icon  Meeting participantsThe Meeting options icon in the Call options dialog in Teams for desktop  Meeting options, and select Everyone for Who can bypass the lobby in the dropdown.

What can I do in a meeting?

Important: The options can vary based on screen size. If you do not see the icon, you may need to tap the  More options button More icon to bring up more call options.

In the meeting, you can:

  • Tap the Teams Chat Bubbles icon  Chat icon to display the meeting chat.

  • Tap the Show participants icon  Meeting participants icon where you can add members from your contacts.

  • Teams share icon Share photos, videos, or your device screen.

  • Teams Raise Hand Icon   Raise your hand in the call.

  • Teams video off icon black   Enable/disable your camera.

  • Teams microphone icon black   Mute/unmute your microphone.

  • Teams mobile speaker options icon  Change your audio options to DeviceSpeaker, or Audio off.

  • Tap the  More options button More icon to bring up more call options.

    • Teams hold icon Put yourself on hold.

    •   Teams video off icon black  Turn off incoming video.

    • Layout icon  Change the layout.

Create an instant meeting:

  1. There are multiple ways to create an instant meeting:

    • From your Chat tab, tap the Start an instant meeting Meet now button  icon at the top of the list.

    • Tap the Calendar tab, then tap the Start an instant meeting Meet now button  icon at the top of the screen.

  2. You can tap the Edit Edit button  icon to change the name of the meeting.

To create a scheduled meeting:

  1. From the Calendar tab, tap the Plus Add button  icon at the top of the screen.

  2. Give your meeting a name in the Title field.

  3. Tap the Online meeting toggle to On to generate your online meeting link.

  4. Use the Start and End fields to schedule your meeting. You can also set the meeting to repeat or add details.

  5. Tap Done to schedule your meeting.

  6. Your meeting appears on your Calendar; tap the meeting, then tap Share meeting invite Teams iOS share icon  to share your meeting link via SMS, Skype, and more.

  7. Tap the meeting in your Calendar, then tap Join to start the meeting, set your audio and video options, and select Join now to enter the meeting as host.

What can I do in meetings?

  3. Select Get a link to share to generate a link that you can copy to your clipboard and share in any way you wish.

    Note: After you select Get a link to share, you can disable users entering the meeting's lobby before they're able to join, by clicking Configure Meeting options, then in your default browser select Who can bypass the lobby in the dropdown menu and click Save.

  4. Select Start meeting to begin.

    • Your meeting is created, and your meeting link is displayed in the meeting chat. You can copy and share this link at any time.

  5. Set your audio and video options, and then select Join now. Learn more about how to customize your background in the pre-join screen.

To create a scheduled meeting:

  1. From the Calendar tab, select the New Meeting icon at the top of the screen.

  2. Give your meeting a name in the Title field.

  3. You can set the meeting for All day, or you can fill out the start and end fields to schedule your meeting. You can also set the meeting to repeat or add details.

  4. Select Save to schedule your meeting.

  5. You can choose Copy link  Teams copy meeting link icon to copy your meeting invite link and share in any way you wish. Your meeting will also appear on your Calendar; you can open the meeting at any time and select Copy link Teams copy meeting link icon  to copy your meeting invite link.

    • You can open the meeting at any time and select Copy link Teams copy meeting link icon  to copy your meeting invite link.

    • You can configure the meeting's privacy options by clicking Meeting options. A new tab should open in your default browser where you can set Who can bypass the lobby and Who can present options in the dropdown menu.

What can I do in meetings?

In the meeting, you can:

  • Select the Show participants icon  Show participants icon to add participants from your contacts.

  • Select the Teams Chat Bubbles icon  Show conversation icon to display the meeting chat.

  • Select  Teams Raise Hand Icon  Raise hand to raise your hand in the call.

  • Select the More options button  More actions icon to bring up your call options.

    • The device settings in the Meeting options menu in Teams for desktop  Access your Device settings to check your Audio and Video devices.

    • The Meeting options icon in the Call options dialog in Teams for desktop  Open the Meeting options to control who can bypass the lobby or present content.

    • Teams meeting information icon   Select Meeting info to show the meeting's title, copy the meeting link, and more.

    • Change your view.

    • Change your screen size:

      • The Focus icon in Teams for desktop  Focus mode.

      • The Fullscreen icon in Teams for desktop View the call in Full screen.

    • The Background effects icon in Teams for desktop  Apply background effects, like blurring or changing your background.

    • Teams video off icon black  Turn off incoming video.

  • Teams video off icon black   Enable/disable your camera.

  • Teams microphone icon black   Mute/unmute your microphone.

  • The Share icon in Teams for desktop  Share your screen.

Create an instant meeting:

    • Select the Calendar tab, click the Meet now Meet now button  icon at the top of the screen, and then select Create a meeting.

Create an instant meeting:

  1. There are multiple ways to create an instant meeting:

    • From your Chat tab, click the New Meeting Meet now button  icon above your chat list.

    • Select the Calendar tab, click the Meet now Meet now button  icon at the top of the screen, and then click Create a meeting.

  2. Enter a name for the meeting.

  3. Click Get a link to share to generate a link that you can copy to your clipboard and share in any way you wish.

    Note: After you click Get a link to share, you can disable users entering the meeting's lobby before they're able to join, by clicking Configure Meeting options. A new tab should open in your default browser where you can change Who can bypass the lobby in the dropdown menu. Set your options and then click Save.

  4. Select Start meeting to begin.

    Note: Your browser will ask permission to use your recording device, and you must grant access if you wish to speak in the meeting. You will have the option to disable sound for the meeting.

To create a scheduled meeting:

  1. From the Calendar tab, select the New Meeting button at the top of the screen.

  2. Give your meeting a name in the Title field.

  3. You can set the meeting for All day, or you can fill out the start and end fields to schedule your meeting. You can also set the meeting to repeat or add details.

  4. Select Save to schedule your meeting.

  5. You can choose Copy link  Teams copy meeting link icon to copy your meeting invite link and share in any way you wish, or you can use Google Calendar to create and send the meeting through Google Calendar. Your meeting will also appear on your calendar.

    • You can open the meeting at any time and select Copy link Teams copy meeting link icon to copy your meeting invite link.

  • Select the  Teams Chat Bubbles icon Show conversation icon to display the meeting chat.

  • Select the Show participants icon  Show participants icon to view or add participants from your contacts.
