Select the cell where you want to insert a checkmark and on the Insert tab, select
 Symbols and choose  Symbol. -
Select Wingdings from the Font drop-down list.

Scroll down to the bottom, select the checkmark, and choose Insert.

Select the cell where you want to insert a checkmark, on the Insert tab, selectÂ
 Symbol. -
If not expanded, select the
 Expand button on the right corner of the gallery. -
Choose Bullets/Stars from the list on the left, scroll down, choose and double-click a checkmark to use. You can also type check in the
 Search field to quickly get a selection. -
Close the gallery.
Inserting a checkmark isn't currently possible in Excel for the web. You can, however, insert a checkmark in the Excel desktop app.

To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing > Open in Desktop App.
