Symptoms

In some cases cross release live migration can fail because of a virtual switch configuration issue.Consider the following scenario:

  • You create a virtual machine on a Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V host, and then link the virtual machine to a virtual switch.

  • You try to live migrate the virtual machine from the Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V host to the Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host, but it has no virtual switch with the same name as the 2012 host.

In this scenario, the live migration fails. Additionally, you receive a generic error and have no option to perform fix up. After you install this update, you can select the proper virtual switch which exists on the destination host, and then live migration will succeed.
