Important: This article describes how to set a Sensitivity level on your messages to help recipients know your intentions when you send a message. However, people who receive your email can take any action that they want to, such as forwarding the confidential message to another person. To restrict the actions that recipients can take on the messages you send, we recommend that you instead use Microsoft 365 Message Encryption if it's available in your organization.
-
In a new message or in a reply in classic Outlook, select File > Info > Properties.
-
Under Settings, select Sensitivity and then select Confidential, Private, or Personal from the drop-down list.Â
-
Select Close.Â
Note:Â Only emails that come from you can be marked as confidential, private, or personal. To mark a received email as important, see Mark a message as important.
You can use encryption to make an email message private in new Outlook.Â
-
In an email message you're drafting, select the Options tab.
-
Select  Encrypt, then select Do Not Forward.Â
