Note: If your version is newer than those listed below, it’s because there may be a delay between when versions start rolling out and when they are updated on this page.

Notes: 

  • As new features become available, they're rolled out over a period of time to all subscribers. This means not all customers will receive the new features right away, but you can expect it to come to your device soon. If you have a Microsoft 365 work or school account, the timing of when you receive new features may also depend on your organization’s settings.

  • Sometimes after we complete a Deferred ring release, we wait for a build to finish releasing to the Production ring before selecting it as the next release for the Deferred ring. In these cases, we will update the Deferred ring column to read something like, "Next release: 19.222.x" to help customers with their planning before we publish the exact build number and target date.

  • A blank in the table means nothing is rolling out to that ring right now.

  • To apply OneDrive sync app updates, computers must be able to reach the following: "oneclient.sfx.ms" and "g.live.com." Make sure you don't block these domains. They are also used to enable and disable features and apply bug fixes. More info about the URLs and IP address ranges used in Microsoft 365.

    • Exclude file extensions from syncing. Personal users can now easily configure file extensions to be excluded from syncing to the cloud from OneDrive Sync Settings. If admins configure the policy to exclude certain extensions, those will be shown to business users as read-only settings. 

    • Shortcut files excluded by default. New shortcut files (with .lnk extension) will now be excluded from syncing to the cloud. This change ensures that users’ shortcuts, which are specific to the machine they were created on, will no longer cause issues such as broken or duplicated shortcuts across machines.

    • Improvements to folder backup opt-out experience. We are updating the behavior when users turn off folder backup. Users will now have the option to restore the files back to their original location. Note: when a folder contains files stored only in the cloud, those files will not be moved; they will remain in the cloud. Learn more.

    • Updated experience for Office document conflict resolution. Previously, clicking the “Resolve” action on a conflict would require the user to choose between opening the file in the Office desktop app to merge changes or keeping both versions of the file (forking the document and appending the computer’s name to the forked file). After this change, the user can only open the document with a conflict in Office to merge the changes. The option to fork the document will be removed.

There is no change at this time for users that have the feature disabled from OneDrive settings or by admin policy.

    • Public Preview: Folder Backup for Music and Videos folders. Folder Backup (Known Folder Move) now supports backing up and syncing the Music and Videos folders for OneDrive personal users. In the Insiders ring, you can enable backup for these folders by going to OneDrive settings > Sync and back up > Manage back up.

The menu will display all the accounts you have signed into Microsoft 365 apps and Windows. This new feature provides a more streamlined and convenient way to set up your account for syncing.

    • Top down deletes. We've changed how OneDrive sync propagates deletes to the backend, allowing the web recycle bin to match the actions of the user. In the past, if a user deleted a folder, all the contents of the folder would show up as individual items in the recycle bin. With this change, users would only see the parent folder in the recycle bin, allowing them to restore everything easily, and quickly.

    • A new "Recycle Bin" option which will direct you to a browser window of the OneDrive cloud recycle bin.

    • The “Help & Settings”  icon has moved to the top right corner of the window.

How to check the version you're using

  1. Open OneDrive settings (select the OneDrive cloud icon in your notification area, and then select the OneDrive Help and Settings icon then Settings.)

  2. Go to the About tab to see the version number.

    Tip: Check the box to access to pre-release versions of OneDrive on your computer.

In the past, if a user deleted a folder, all the contents of the folder would show up as individual items in the recycle bin. With this change, users would only see the parent folder in the recycle bin, allowing them to restore everything easily, and quickly.

    • General Availability: OneDrive sync health dashboard. Use the OneDrive sync health dashboard in the Microsoft 365 Apps Admin Center to get an executive summary of everything happening with OneDrive so that you can resolve common issues quickly and focus on other strategic tasks as an administrator.     • Contact support entry point removed. We've removed the entry point for end users with work and school accounts to contact support from within the product. Support tickets can still be created through the admin portal.

    • General Availability: Folder Backup (Known Folder Move) on macOS. You'll be able to back up your Desktop and Documents folders to OneDrive on macOS and access them on any of your devices.

    • One-click sign in. The First Run Experience now allows you to pick and configure your account using a drop-down menu. The menu will display all the accounts you have signed into Microsoft 365 apps and Windows. This new feature provides a more streamlined and convenient way to set up your account for syncing.

    • The Activity Center user experience is getting a design refresh. There is a new command "Recycle Bin" in the footer of the Activity Center which will direct the user to a browser window of the OneDrive cloud recycle bin. The “Help & Settings”  icon has moved to the top right corner of the window.

How to check the version you're using

  1. Open OneDrive settings (select the OneDrive cloud icon in your notification area, and then select the OneDrive Help and Settings icon then Settings.)

  2. Go to the About tab to see the version number.

    Tip: Check the box to access to pre-release versions of OneDrive on your computer.

Caution: If you sign in with a work or school account, your IT Admin may configure your computer to use an older version of OneDrive.
