The Navigation pane in Excel is an easy way to understand a workbook's layout, see what elements exist within the workbook, and navigate directly to those elements.Â

To open, go to the View tab and select Navigation. The Navigation pane opens on the right.

To close the Navigation pane, select the X in the upper right corner of the pane.

The Navigation pane isn't available in Excel for the web. You can, however, use the Navigation pane in the Excel desktop app.

To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing > Open in Desktop App.
