By default, OneNote saves your notebooks to OneDrive.

Select the File menu, select Options, and choose Save & Backup.

In the Save section, select Default Notebook Location and then Modify. (You can select where to save the Backup Folder and Quick Notes Section the same way.)

Enter the new location Folder name and choose Select.

When you move a notebook, others will no longer be able to access it. You can reshare the notebook.

By default, OneNote for the web doesn't give you a location choice. However, you can choose where a new notebook is located with this workaround:

Select a folder in OneDrive where you want to save the new notebook.

Select +Add new and choose OneNote notebook.

The new notebook opens in OneNote for the web.Â
Note: You can move an existing notebook manually, but it may cause sync issues. For more info, see Move a notebook.Â
By default, OneNote for Mac saves notebooks to OneDrive. When creating a new notebook, you can choose where it is located with this workaround:

In OneDrive online, select a folder where you want to save the new notebook.

Select +New and choose OneNote notebook.

When the notebook opens in OneNote for the web, select Open in Desktop. To open the notebook later, repeat this step or select File and choose Open Recent in the OneNote desktop app.
