Curate your skills today to take advantage of the upcoming personalized experiences.
Note: Skills in Viva is currently available only for private preview customers. The features described here are subject to change.
Curate your skills
Skills in Viva provides AI-driven skill suggestions based on your job role and activities. You can find them on the Your skills page following your profile.
Confirm your skills and share them with others in your organization to take advantage of future experiences.
You can also dismiss skill suggestions that don’t apply to you to help improve the suggestions you receive.
If you don’t want to receive AI-driven skill suggestions, you can disable them.
Note: Generally, skills you confirm are shared by default with leaders and peers in your organization, in experiences such as the Microsoft 365 profile card. You can choose which skills you want to share on the Manage skills page.
If your admin sets your skills to be private by default, you won’t see the notice at the bottom of the screenshot shown above. You’ll have the option to share your skills once you confirm them. You can also update the visibility of your confirmed skills on the Manage skills page.
Read the Manage skills section later in this article for more information on managing skill visibility.
Confirm or dismiss skill suggestions
To confirm skill suggestions:
-
You can confirm multiple skills at once to add them as Skills you’re sharing. Select each skill you want to confirm and then select Confirm skills.
-
The skills you've confirmed will appear on the same page in the Skills you're sharing section.
-
If your visibility setting is private by default, you'll see an additional message after selecting Confirm skills. This gives you the option to share skills.
To dismiss a skill suggestion:
-
Select or hover on a skill suggestion to see a short description. If the skill doesn't apply to you, select the X to dismiss it.
Tip: If you don’t have a particular skill yet but are interested in learning it, don’t dismiss the suggestion. You can add it as a Skill you're growing. Read the Grow your skills section later in this article for more information.
Choose whether to receive skill suggestions
You can control whether you see AI-generated skill suggestions.
Select Skill settings and then set Skill suggestions on or off. You can also access this setting from the Manage AI suggestions button on the Your skills page.
Search for a skill
On the Your skills page, enter the name of the skill you're looking for in the search bar. The search bar displays relevant skills found in your organization's skills library.
You can search for and add multiple skills at once.
1. Select the skill you want from the list.
2. To add more than one skill, search again. Each skill you select appears below the search bar.
3. Select Confirm skills when you're done searching.
4. The skill appears in the Skills you're sharing section and on your Manage skills page.
5. If your visibility setting is private by default, you'll see an additional message after selecting Confirm skills. This gives you the option to share skills.
Add skills from other systems in your organization
If your organization has imported skills you’ve selected in another system, you’ll see them on the Your skills page.
Select those that are relevant to you and then select Confirm skills. This is the same experience for sharing skills as described in the Confirm or dismiss skill suggestions section earlier in this article.
Manage your skills
Select Manage skills from the navigation links at the beginning of the page or the Manage your skills button near the end of the page. Here's what you can do:
-
Manage preferences for all your skills.
-
Manage the visibility of all your confirmed skills.
-
Remove skills you’ve previously confirmed.
-
Retrieve skills you’ve previously dismissed or removed.
-
Select skills you’re interested in growing.
Manage skills
On the Manage skills page, you'll find a list of your skills. The Preferences section shows the confirmed skills you're sharing with others in your organization and the skills you're currently growing.
-
Select the search or filter icons to quickly find the skill you’re looking for.
-
Select the eye icon to change the visibility status of a confirmed skill. Note that for shared skills, the eye icon appears when you hover on the skill.
-
Select the Confirmed icon (certificate with check mark) or Growing icon (book) to change your preferences for that skill.
-
Select the pencil or the trash icon that you see when hover on a skill to Edit or Remove skills.
-
In the Edit skill pane, you can also add or remove skills from Skills you’re sharing and Skills you’re growing. You can also adjust whether a confirmed skill is shared.
Note: If a skill has one preference selected (only confirmed or only growing), you can't use the icon to turn the current preference on or off because this would remove the skill from your list.
Instead, you can use the trash icon if you want to remove the skill. Additionally, you can’t change the visibility of skills that are set to growing only because these are always private to you.
Retrieve skills you’ve previously dismissed or removed
To recover any skill that you previously dismissed or removed:
1. In Manage dismissed skills, select Manage.
2. Select skills to recover and then select whether to add them to Confirmed skills, Skills you’re growing, or to both. And you can manage the visibility of skills you confirm.
3. Select Save to confirm your choices.
Grow your skills
Select skills you'd like to learn and develop with upcoming experiences.
1. In Grow your skills, select from the AI-driven skill suggestions shown or search for skills that you’re interested in growing. You can select multiple skills at once.
2. Select Show all to open a view of all available AI-driven skill suggestions.
3. When you have selected all the skills you want to add to those you’re growing, select Add.
Tip: You can also add skills you’ve previously confirmed or dismissed to Skills you’re growing from the Manage skills list or from Manage dismissed skills.
