ISSUE
When organizers update instances of recurring Zoom meetings in Outlook, the following issue might occur:
-
The Join button in recurring meeting instances continues to open the original Zoom URL.
-
Even if the Zoom add-in updates the meeting body with the correct link, the Join button does not reflect the updated URL.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because of how Outlook stores online meeting information:
-
Online meeting info that powers the Join button is stored in the main meeting object as a global property.
-
When an occurrence is updated, the body and attachment are updated correctly. However, the Join button does not look at the occurrence attachments. Instead, it only references the single, global property from the main meeting object.
-
Because this property cannot hold multiple URLs, it cannot reflect unique Zoom Join URLs for each occurrence.
STATUS: WORKAROUND
Microsoft and Zoom are aware of the behavior. This is a not supported scenario due to a known product limitation.
WORKAROUND
To ensure users join the correct Zoom meeting, instruct them to use the meeting body link instead of the Join button when the meeting URL has been changed. We recommend not modifying the Zoom meeting URL in single occurrences of a recurring meeting. Instead, create a separate Zoom meeting if a different link is required.
