Your presence indicator (or status) is affected by events on your calendar: By default, any event marked Busy on your calendar causes your status in Teams to also show as Busy. 

  • When you're creating a meeting or appointment, select Show As button Show As in the Options area on the ribbon to set what your status should be during that event.
