Give your tables a designer’s touch with table styles. Choose from a selection of color schemes, apply alternate row colors, add a heading row, or format a total row.Note: current Microsoft 365 apps use Table Design and Table Layout tabs rather than Table Tools Design or Table Tools Layout.Â
Apply a table style to an existing table

Select any cell in the table.

Select the Table Design tab.Â

In the Table Styles gallery, select the table style you want to apply.
Note: To remove a table style, on the Table Design tab, select
 Table Styles, on the Table Styles gallery and then choose Clear or Clear Table.
Change the table style options
To change the design of the table, do one or more of the following:

To add special formatting to the first row in a table, on the Table Design tab, select Header Row.

To add special formatting to the last row in a table, on the Table Design tab, select Total Row.

To alternate row or column colors and make tables easier to read, on the Table Design tab, select Banded Rows or Banded Columns.​​​​​​​
Change the table style options in new Outlook
To change the design of the table, do one or more of the following:

To add special formatting to the first row in a table, on the Table tab, select Table Options and choose Header Row.

To add special formatting to the first column in a table, on the Table tab, select Table Options and choose First column.

To alternate row or column colors and make tables easier to read, on the Table tab, select Table Options and choose Banded Rows or Banded Columns.​​​​​​​
Repeat a table heading on subsequent pages in Word or classic Outlook

Select the heading row or rows that you want to repeat on each page.

On the Table Layout tab, select Repeat Header Rows.
