Before you can use your iPad to open notebooks on your SharePoint or sign in with a Microsoft 365 subscription through your work, school, or other organization, you must first sign in to OneNote for iPad using your Microsoft account.

A Microsoft account is an email address used to sign in to Microsoft services. You already have a Microsoft account if you use any of the following:

  • Hotmail (example@hotmail.com or example@live.com)

  • Outlook.com

  • Your own email address that is registered as a Microsoft account (Gmail, Yahoo, and others.)

  • Xbox LIVE

  • OneDrive

  • MSN

  • Messenger

  • Microsoft 365 Family subscription

If you don’t already have notebooks on OneDrive, one is automatically created for you when you sign in.

Note: If you’re away from your network and your organization requires VPN for remote network access, in iPad Settings, turn VPN on and enter your credentials to connect to the network. If you’ve tried to sign in multiple times and continue to receive an error message about an incorrect user name and password, it might be due to an issue with SharePoint server. Your network or SharePoint server administrator can tell you whether VPN is required and provide the configuration for setting it up on your device.

  1. Go to your notebooks list.

Tip: If you're already on a page in a notebook, tap Back button until you see your list of notebooks.

  2. Tap More Notebooks in the Notebook pane.

  3. In the Open More Notebooks section, tap on the notebook you want and OneNote will open it for you.
