Some PCs can let Windows automatically adjust screen brightness based on the current lighting conditions. To find out if your PC supports this, select Settings > System > Display. Select Brightness, look for the Change brightness automatically when lighting changes check box, and then select it to use this feature.

If you receive a message in Windows Security prompting you to update your security processor or TPM firmware, follow the steps in the "Recommended actions" section below. Note: In previous versions of Windows 10, Windows Security is called Windows Defender Security Center.

TPM 2.0 is used in Windows 11 for a number of features, including Windows Hello for identity protection and BitLocker for data protection. In some cases, PCs that are capable of running TPM 2.0 are not set up to do so. If you are considering upgrading to Windows 11, check to ensure TPM 2.0 is enabled on your device.

If you forgot your work or school password, never got a password from your organization, or have been locked out of your account, you can use your security info and your mobile device to reset your work or school password. Your administrator must turn on this feature for you to be able to register your information and reset your own password.

Create Windows 11 installation media. On the Windows 11 software download page , select Create tool now and follow the instructions to install Windows 11. Warning: Microsoft recommends against installing Windows 11 on a device that does not meet the Windows 11 minimum system requirements.

Defragment your Windows 10 PC. Windows 10. Optimizing your drives can help your PC run smoother and boot up faster. To optimize them: Select the search bar on the taskbar and enter defrag. Select Defragment and Optimize Drives. Select the disk drive you want to optimize. Select the Optimize button.

If you encrypt an Outlook message that contains voting buttons, message recipients won't be able to see them. That feature isn't supported at this time. Create an email message or reply to or forward a message that you received. On the Options tab, in the Tracking group, click Use Voting Buttons.

Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features to change whether you're shown app recommendations when trying to install apps from outside the Store.
