To check activation status in Windows 11, select the Start button, and then select Settings > System and then select Activation .. Your activation status will be listed next to Activation.. Check activation status in Settings. You'll see one of these activation status messages on the Activation page:

The first time you open an app like Word or PowerPoint you might need to sign in with your new business email address and password to activate the app. Tip Signing in connects the apps to the rest of Microsoft 365, letting you save files to the cloud, share files with others, and have your documents save automatically as you work.

However, we always recommend that you back up files before installing a new Windows version. If you already sync your files to OneDrive, you may not need to take any additional action to create a backup. The Windows Backup app automatically works in the background to remember your latest changes. When you set up a new PC, we'll ask you to sign in using the Microsoft account from your backup, and we’ll handle the rest.
