As part of the startup process, Microsoft Word can load Component Object Model (COM) add-ins. A COM add-in is a supplemental program that extends the capabilities of Microsoft Word by adding custom commands and specialized features. NOTE: A Microsoft program and a third-party program both can install COM add-ins.

You can also add apps that display news or information from third-party websites or that connect to social websites. You may be able to add apps to your site from a variety of sources. For example, if your organization has developed custom apps for internal business use, you can add these by browsing the apps under From Your Organization.

You can remove apps from Teams from the Manage your apps experience. You can also remove apps from the context you're working in–from a team, chat, and other places you've added apps. The installation may take several minutes, depending on your Internet speed. Once installation is complete, you'll see a quick tour of how to open your apps. Close the tour, as well as the installation dialog. You're now ready to start using Office on your computer. To open an app, select the Start menu, type the app name, and then select the app.

This registry setting ensures that Automation Add-ins that you have added to the Add-ins list are retained in the list even when you have chosen not to load them. If you're a team owner, you can decide if team members have the ability to add apps. Go to the team name and click More options > Manage team > Settings > Member permissions. Then check or uncheck the box labeled Allow members to add or remove apps.

Select My sign-ins or select the Review recent activity link from the My sign-ins block. Expand and review each of the sign-in items, making sure that you recognize each one. If you find a sign-in item that doesn't look familiar, change your password to protect the account in case it's compromised.

Note: If you receive a prompt asking whether to allow the app to access your camera (iOS) or to allow the app to take pictures and record video (Android). select Allow so the authenticator app can access your camera to take a picture of the QR code in the next step.If you don't allow the camera, you can still set up the authenticator app as described in Manually add an account to the app.
