Efficiency mode What is efficiency mode in Microsoft Edge? Efficiency mode is designed to help extend battery life. It minimizes power usage by reducing resource usage through modifying background tab activity and some foreground activity, as well as putting inactive background tabs to sleep after 30 minutes or less of inactivity (if Save resources with sleeping tabs is on).

If you open a page written in a different language than your preferred languages in settings, Microsoft Edge will automatically prompt you to translate it. The Translate icon appears in the address bar when you go to a web page that’s written in a foreign language. A language is considered foreign to you if it's not included in your Preferred languages list in Settings.

To help protect your privacy, the new Microsoft Edge sets tracking prevention to balanced by default. For increased protection, you can switch your tracking prevention to strict or block all third-party cookies.

Voice typing. In Windows 11, dictation has been updated and renamed as voice typing. Like dictation, voice typing uses online speech recognition technologies to power its speech-to-text transcription service. You no longer need to turn on the Online Speech recognition setting to use voice typing.
